Bill Gaither is as cute as a bunny.

(I am working on a post about Tennessee’s EPIC CICADA INVASION!!!!!!!– but I wanted you guys to see this video first.)

OK, so you remember last month when my Daddy only had a few days left to live, and I left Arkansas and drove back to Nashville to tape six months worth of Homecoming Radio shows? Well, I almost canceled, and then just felt like I needed to go ahead and do it. I didn’t say anything to Bill or the rest of the crew about what was going on, I just thought I would somehow get through it, fulfill my duties and then rush back home. Well, once again God in His infinite wisdom knew exactly what I needed, because those two days in the studio were such an unexpected blessed relief. What I thought I would just try to get through ended up being so healing and restorative– laughing your head off for two straight days can do a sad heart a world of good!

Here’s just a quick taste of why I loved those two days, that dang radio show and everyone involved with it so much:

Every show they play at least one of those old camp meeting/singing convention-type songs, which is William Gaither’s favorite music in the world and gets him going every time. Now, we are trying to knock out 6 months of radio shows in two days, so we don’t listen to all of the recorded music when we tape– we just do the intros to the song, and then skip ahead to when the song is over and we move on to the next bit of business (or silliness). But nine times out of ten, when the sound of those convention songs starts wafting into Bill’s headphones, he waves at the guy in the control booth and says, “Let that one play for a minute!” He starts grinning ear to ear, and singing along, and conducting, and punching the arm of the poor person sitting next to him because he JUST CAN’T HELP HIMSELF, HE LOVES THOSE SONGS THAT MUCH! In this case, the unfortunate soul within arm-punching distance was Larry Gatlin, and I grabbed my phone and made a little video of a typical Bill reaction…

Honestly, he is so cute sometimes ya just wanna dunk him in your coffee.

Wish I could have been a fly on the wall there!

When I read your post two seperate quotes from Proverbs sprang to mind; “The cheerful of heart has a continual feast.” and
“A joyful heart is good medicine.” The Lord knew exactly what his daughter needed to make it through the coming days ahead. What a gift; and those two did seem to be having a just a little too much fun.

Oh, that’s just too precious, and funny at the same time; including your enjoyment of it = ) Thanks to everyone for sharing this !! = )

Didn’t Bill INVENT camp meeting songs? Or was it camp meetings?

This is so funny…….first you hear Larry call Bill a DUCK! Then you hear some cackling in the background! Oh…….wait…..that’s you laughing, Tori! LOL Makes me laugh just hearing YOU LAUGH!

I agree with Betty—-oh, to be a fly on the wall.

    Don’t tell me Bill’s responsible for Kum-ba-ya !!?! = /

Oh my gosh, that’s soooo funny! Because we can’t hear a thing except Bill singing his part here and there.

It’s like when someone has earphones listening to their iPod and singing along. We have no idea…all we hear is them! Priceless. And love his little hat!

OK – on a side not – Tori, has anyone ever told you you look like Stevie Nicks (or rather, she looks like you)? Just thought I’d mention it…

Thanks for the laugh for today.

Thank you Tori for sharing this video! I gotta tell ya, I love love love that man…. I just love this whole southern gospel “thing” and he brought all the wonderful and blessed music of decades ago to a younger generation and now I know this music and it preaches to me.

Like you do at times Tori I just ran away on a “me” week-end and after seeing GVB less than a month ago with some lady friends from church I took off on an excursion week-end about 2 hours away from home — which I hardly ever do by my self, to get filled and blessed and just be on my own with Jesus and the music that I love. I gotta tell ya it was so refreshing and such a blessed weekend. Oh how I wish I could have just got the chance to shake Bill’s hand and thank him for the music. One day I truly want to do that.

Must have traded Mark for Larry this time…or was it Kevin? I couldn’t tell. But I liked hearing you laugh and Bill was a hoot. What’s that expression? Y’all are having so much fun it has to be against the law.

One more bit of proof that good men never completely grow up…

I’m waiting to hear ‘small-j-jonny’s’ plan. If there is a chance of still making the trip to Nashville I will seriously make the road trip myself to meet him.

Alyson, you wouldn’t want our Tori to miss out on going to FamilyFest with her family…..and having a few laughs with that cute bunny, would ya?

And, Tori, if you are looking for a bed and breakfast kind of place on your way to southern parts, I am volunteering…..or inviting.

Oh no Momma –I didn’t mean INSTEAD OF FF. I figure jonny will keep us posted on his itinerary …and I can do Nashville in a day…only takes me a couple of hours from here. Besides, I have a daughter living in Hendersonville now so I’m there more often.

Well, my dad has just offered to pay for the flights in and out of Nashville. And old Army buddy living JUST outside of Nashville as just let me know I can use his place to crash at. I could fly in before Family Fest and meet up with everyone, or we could do it after Family Fest. On the 13th of June i hope to see one band in action, my flight out would be the 15th, or the 16th. Have to double check that. But, with the trip to Puerto Rico postponed, it leaves me more flexible as to when I could fly into Nashville. Thanks Auburn for wanting to meet me. Along with Tori’s interest in doing so, the wonderful time I had with Former and her clan, really makes it feel more like family here. Oh, and Barbara, Rachel and her mom Betty’s support and interest in stuff I’m involved with outside of the Bloomr blog is also greatly appreciated, and for this too I am grateful = )

Or, should I also try and go to Family Fest as well ??? Up to whatever the Lord may have mind, as well as others = )

Well,FF is pretty much a ‘no-go’ at this late date. No tickets to be had.

I’ll be taking supplies to tornado victims in Alabama for at least part of the Memorial Day weekend. This is a long story that I don’t have the time to go into right now.

jonny, I can’t even remember what it was like to be that spontaneous in my life. Oh wait…I never was. Always a little anal about plans and itineraries and such. Sort of a ‘type A’ personality, I guess.

  18. jonny

Well, I thought I had a plan of plans for this trip, but seems God had other designs in mind = ) The last week has been quite stretching, to say the least, lol !!

  19. jonny

I guess after I here back from Tori I’ll book the flights. Of all those I hope to meet and greet in Nashville, she seems to be the busiest !!

  20. bettyrwoodward

I just hope you manage to meet her jonny and the others as well. Have fun. I’m off you see Rachel tomorrow which will be the first time for a few months.

  21. JanetB

Am I the only one trying to figure out just what song Bill is singing? (I do know, by the way – I’m just a big geek that way. :D )

Shipping supplies off to Joplin today…

Ya’ll just stay safe this weekend, you hear?

  22. JanetB

    Ok…that just looks weird…

  23. jonny

Thanks, Betty ! and lots of love to Rachel from me please when you meet up !! = )
