What’s new? Not much… except for maybe that whole “Epic Flood of Biblical Proportion” thing.

(Photos still being added.)

First of all, we are fine.

We are safe and dry and we have power. No damage. The Little Harpeth River at the edge of our property rose ALARMINGLY, but didn’t come into the house. Russ was on his way home from the weekend Homecoming concerts and had to spend the night at a Dallas airport hotel because they closed the Nashville airport. He is on his way home right this minute. We haven’t left the house in 2 days, but I am about to make a grocery run. We are incredibly grateful that this is over.

HOWEVER– so many fellow Nashvillians are really suffering. This event is unprecedented in the history of Nashville and even though we are rallying heroically, this town has taken a hit it will take a very, very long time to recover from. We are barely a few hours into the aftermath– actually, two of the rivers are cresting now and the flooding is still continuing to develop in some areas of town– and the true extent of the damage has yet to be revealed. I personally know of two friends who are literally landlocked– they cannot leave their neighborhood because all roads in and out are underwater. There is no definitive end in sight because the water is receding at different levels all over town.

Please pray for my city, and for all of the people who woke up numb, hurting and scared this morning. Please pray for the rescue workers who are tirelessly trying to restore some semblance of order. Please pray for the people of God all over this city who are even now gathering at their churches and organizing supplies, money and clean-up teams. I’ll keep you updated, but for now I’ll leave you with some pictures of what the last 48 hours have looked like.

With my intimate love for Nashville being so new, and my friendships there being so sweet, I am devastated from afar.

…and very glad everyone I know and love there, and their homes, are safe

…and very sad for those who are not

…and not missing the irony in my personal life, that this happened the DAY we signed papers to sell our house, to move to Nashville. There’s a joke or a lesson in there somewhere.

Hope Russ gets home to you today. I know you’re a woman of independent means and all, but since I’m at the beginning of a WEEK without Rod (we just don’t do that, normally!), I’m thinking all trying times are better when our partners in crime are around. :hugs:

    Mercy!

Wow!!! I’ve been running around all day and never saw this on the news!!! I sure glad you and the girls are safe and sound! And dry!!

I’ve never heard of flooding in the Nashville area. Is it in a low lying area? Has this happened before? How scary! I can’t swim, and I’m afraid I’d be wearing a lifejacket 24/7! OR about four pairs of my kids “floaties”!

Stay safe! We’re praying for all you Nashville folks!

I’d been thinking about you all weekend as the reports kept saying “Record rainfall” “Haven’t seen anything like this in Nashville”, etc., etc. Incredible!

    Hi Tori,
I figured you were busy and that this is what you were working on.

    Dear Heavenly Father,
Please be with Russ and give him a safe arrival home. Please be with Tori and the girls. Please be with all of Nashville at this time and allow the waters to recede quickly. Please be with those who are now homeless and give them shelter. Please be with those who have felt devistating losses and help them to recover. Please bring food, warmth, clothing, shelter and every physical need that is needed to our fellow citizens in this land. Please bring comfort and solace to those who are in need. Please care for every need and everyone in the flood areas. Please raise up heroes and champions to help them through this and to guard and protect them. May your grace and love shine on them in their hour of need.

God love you and bless you Nashville and all the flood areas… Amen.

For the first time my joy about seeing a new post quickly turned into unbelief, sorrow, compassion…what else could I do than praying? However I’m also grateful you & your girls are safe and I hope Russ can join you three as soon as possible – also safe!

Lordy, it’s reminiscent of the flooding after Katrina. Praying that the present government will do a much better job and treat people with more humanity than what happened down here. Big, giant, dry hugs!!! xoxoxo

You definately have been in my prayers and I kept getting news reports from friends who would read your notes on FaceBook. All reports were saying that your city was getting hit pretty hard. Bless your angel bones, I know it had to be frightening…not knowing what would happen before it was over. Not only have we had flooding here in the states, but England is having the same thing.

I’m glad all of the little Taff birds are home in their nest. Makes me feel better, too.
