I know, I know– You’ve ALL probably already seen this…

…but I just finished writing up my interview with Vince Gill for the next issue of Homecoming Magazine, and after we talked about this video I went to youTube and watched it again– and was completely blown away AGAIN.

So if you’re one of the 6 million + viewers who’ve already seen this, it won’t hurt you to watch it again. Might even do you some good– it sure did me!

Mercy ! OK, it didn’t quite have the same impact on me as when the first time I experienced it, but I’m still retiring early ! Actually, I was introduced to both artist through this video the day it went up on YouTube. I now have Vince on the latest Blind Boys release as well = )

What a combination: Kerry and Vince. That boy can pic as well as sing. I’ve seen it before but, as you said, it’s sure worth hearing again….and again…and again. And that song is so powerful. Loved it.

By the way Barbara, have I ever mentioned what an inspiration you are to me !? Ever since hooking up with the Bloomr crowd, I’ve been nothing but impressed with the many ways you actively seek to effectively reach out to, and support others in/with love ! I’m grateful our paths have crossed, to some degree anyway = )

  4. jonny

Oh, and I should have added ‘wonderfully’ to ‘actively’ and ‘effectively’ ! My bad = /

My goodness, thank you, jonny. Your check is in the mail….but don’t tell anybody. I don’t want “my” Russ to think I am a bought woman, for goodness sake….even if it is only from a stable of adoptive mothers….of which I am the self-proclaimed no. one.

Secret is all ours ! Oh, and please don’t let Former know you’re sending me money !! It could get more than a little ugly. At least for me = /

Vince Gill rocks. I’ve loved his music for a long, long time. Don’t even ask me how many times I’ve seen him in concert!

Tori – I’m very interested that you interviewed him. Prior to marrying Amy, he stated in interviews that he wasn’t interested in the church or religion. I’m wondering if that has changed over the past decade. I’m praying that Jesus is truly real to him now in life. It would be sad if he could sing such a beautiful song without it being so.

Maybe you could drop us some hints from your article? :-)

Oh, and p.s. – Dwight Schrute, a character on “The Office”, runs a beet farm on the side (besides working for Dunder Mifflin Paper Co.) He would love your beet recipe!

Carrie Underwood is simply AWESOME! Such a powerful voice with so much control! And Vince Gill is a national treasure! I love them both. And since Carrie is Alanna and Chloe’s favorite singer, they are played here regularly.

  9. LindaB

Okay, that sounded weird—–“They are played here regularly”?? I meant their recordings are played here regularly. It’s late, I’m tired, and I’m old.

  10. Barbara M. Lloyd

Well, I like them, too…..but guess whose records are played here regularly?!!! And there is a new one supposed to come out soon. I am old ya know, Tori, so see if you can’t rush it a bit, please.

TFS! I hadn’t seen this yet and it gave me chill bumps!

  12. jonny

    It’ll do that = )

  13. Barbara M. Lloyd

Auntie, perhaps Vince meant he isn’t interest in a church or religion…..but only in a relationship with Jesus.

I see where I mentioned playing Russ’ “records”….boy, is my age showing. I meant to say “cd’s.”

Well, I have to say this: Carrie and Vince are fantastic, BUT “How Great Thou Art” is a masterpiece that has blessed and inspired millions! Those words had to be God-given and Spirit led——-it’s such a simple declaration of God’s greatness, but it’s touched so many hearts with it’s profound message for generations.

However, the real “Star” of this performance is our Great God……Whom these simple words extol. We can never exhaust His Greatness, can we?

Sometimes I think you could take an old worn out skidrow bum who’s been saved and delivered by the Grace of God, and have him sing the words of this hymn, it would be equally moving.

  15. Barbara M. Lloyd

You are certainly right about the majesty of that song, “How Great Thou Art.” It’s my favorite of all those wonderful hymns. And I agree that it is all about the message. I am reminded of the preacher who gave a sermon repeating the same sentence over and over, with emphases in different places each time: “It’s Friday….but Sunday is coming!”

  16. jonny

I believe it transcends any message. Something about its reality, encompassing truth reaches and connects with souls. And when those disciplined and developed in their craft, gifts make an offering of it to our God and others, well… it even transcends the limitations of a YouTube video.

By the way Barbara, CDs are out, and vinyl is making a come back !

I have heard many people sing this song and I have to say that Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill did a wonderful job. But no-one sings this song better that Elvis Presley and the Gaither’s.

jonny– It IS incredible, isn’t it? Haven’t heard the Blind Boys cut, but I bet it’s a good one! (And you are totally right about Momma Lloyd…)

Momma Lloyd– The one and only undisputed #1, of course.

auntie– (Totally got the Dwight reference– love that show!) I think Vince is still probably not a big fan of ‘church’ (he’s NEVER home on weekends, hasn’t been for decades, so doesn’t go on a regular basis) or ‘religion’– but he most definitely has a relationship with God, and is a genuinely caring, loving man. He also has a particular soft spot for “How Great Thou Art” as his very first musical memory ever is of his grandmother playing it on the piano when he was a little boy. Great interview, great guy!

LindaB– I totally understood “they are played here regularly.” Am old, too.

cropnotesandcrafts– YAY! Glad I got to introduce it to somebody!

    angelgirl– You have a point…
