Don Timm March 4, 1916 — Easter morning, 2011

Daddy passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with all six of his children sleeping under his roof.

A personal thank you for each and every one of your messages– they are deeply appreciated, and you are all deeply loved.

I can’t help but shed tears this morning for you, Tori, and for your mom and each member of this precious man’s family. It especially touches my heart that his passing would be on the day that Christians everywhere celebrate the truth that Christ is Risen….and. therefore, what is called death here is but a brief passing into glory. Thank you, Jesus.

Sending you and yours my love and prayers.

I’m so sorry Tori and my heart breaks for you right now. I’m praying that you feel God’s loving arms holding you during this difficult time. I pray that you can feel His arms holding you tight, since I cannot be there to hug you and do so. Love you!

    Tori,
I am so sorry; you, your mother and entire family will be in my prayers. St. Francis taught, “Preach the Gospel; when necessary use words” he was taken home on Easter, the fulfillment of the Paschal Mystery, a true man of faith, perhaps this is no coincidence. Maybe someone who regularly reads your blog or someone simply stopping by for the first time will be reminded of what our Lord did for us through his own suffering, death and resurrection. It doesn’t remove the deep feelings of loss and grief; but what a testimony if his passing could lead another toward the path of Christ. And maybe it is a reminder to your family that he isn’t really gone; he’s in each of your hearts; in your smiles and laughter, and that one day you will be together again.
Hold tight to your faith; and one another,
    Shalom,
    Cynthia

Tori, I’ve been checking your blog, expecting to see what I just saw. How amazing that all of his children were once again under his roof when he went. I pray for peace and strength for you all, especially your mom.

    Blessed Resurrection Day. Indeed.

Tori, holding you & your whole family close in thought & prayer.

Give your mom a gentle hug for me, would you please?

Tori – My thought and prayers are with you and your family. My mom went home last year on Easter, in her own bed. It’s a hard thing to say good-bye for now. But, thank God for His promises and the truth that He di ed & rose so we can go there too and spend ETERNITY together. I don’t think I could survive without that promise. I celebrate your father’s life and all the wonderful qualities he passed on to his children.

Tori, I can only put my arms around you & your family in my prayers and ask God to give you all His soothing comfort.

Tori, God’s creation was not made to be broken, each separation of loved ones that happens in this world is a little piece of God that is being separated too, over the centuries and this has happened in the wake of this, pain and sadness has taken account of our hearts.
Your beloved father passed away the day on which all our hopes lie in the day of resurrection of Christ! And soon there will come a day when that same Christ will gather all her children who were over the centuries and will rebuild the families and all live together in an eternal reunion in the home!
That our God sustain your heart and your family.
here by far, my prayers and my loved ones are being made ??by you and your loved ones!
    Because He Lives!

Tori – I was thinking of you this morning in church as we were singing those wonderful Resurrection songs, wondering how you were celebrating this Easter morning. Now I know.

I’ve been wearing my “Because He Lives” bracelet lately (got it at a Gaither Homecoming when they were in Indianapolis each fall), not just because it’s Easter, but – just because…Because He Lives changes everything. Especially death for we believers.

You and your family are being held up in prayer; and we know that God hears them all. I wish I could bring a casserole over to you but this will have to do!

    You are loved!!!!!!

*a deeply profound (painful in parts) penetrating, purifying silence of my soul moment*

You are still dearly loved, missed, and so very much appreciated. Hope to see, meet you in June.

    Peace.

I can’t get that picture out of my mind now that you’ve posted before of your folks standing outside their home, I believe with a smile on your dad’s face, waving good-bye for now; grateful that he was able to have spent this time with you.

  15. Gramma Jac

My Grampa (who raised me, so was like my father) died 20 years ago during the Easter season (about an hour before Palm Sunday). Somehow this season of celebrating the resurrection, of the reminder of life everlasting has always given me comfort and I hope and pray it does for you and your family also. I am SO glad you were all there and I pray you’re all doing well–especially your dear Mom.

Feel God’s comforting arms around you,…and all of our “virtual” hugs too! We love you!

  16. auburn60

I Thess. 4–‘we grieve not like those who have no hope’….

    Love you. Hug your mom.

Madi and Char: my grandfather died when I was 11 y.o. I still think of him and hope he is proud of me. I know your grandfather was proud of the 2 of you. Love you.

Praying for you, sweet Tori. And for your family. I know well what it is like to lose a parent and my heart goes out to you. Praying that you experience God’s peace and comfort during this time, but also that you experience joy in your memories of your Dad and what is undoubtedly a beautiful legacy. You are loved!

Well, God has answered the prayer of His Beloved Son today for Donald Timm—–

“Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (Jn.17:24) There must be some kind of incredible joy just to gaze upon the Son of God!

I have to wonder now if your Dad has met up with Betty yet! And you know she’s gonna try to analyze his personality type! LOL I hope you got a chance to warn him before he left for Heaven. :)

We love you Tori and your sweet family…….and we will pray, though we wish there were something more we could do for you. Take care of yourself!

Knowing how hard it is to say goodbye, I offer you my continued prayers and much love for you, the girls, Russ, and all the family. I believe God chose to send his brightest angels (and a marching band) for your very special Dad on Easter for a reason. Just think…you’ll know why one day.
    I love you,
    Diane

There is so much about your daddy’s passing that makes me say, “Sigh…yes. This is how it should be.” May we all be the kind of parents you have – and the kind of children you are. Love you, lady.

  22. Phyllis S

    Well said KellyBurton.
Tori, each of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Resurrection morning at its finest. Love, Phyllis

Gracious, Linda, you’ve got that right about Betty. And, you have to know she got hers3elf a front row seat for Tori’s dad’s arrival….and had Anthony playing “When We All Get to Heaven,” with Vestal singing solo at the top of her voice. Sitting front row/center….I wonder if the lord made her take off that hat? Unless Jake Hess tripped her, we know Betty got the first hug.

  24. Phyllis S

Barb and LindaB, Oh My reading Linda’s post just made my day, laughing out loud at the thought of the expression on Mr. Timm’s face on his first encounter with Betty. Her hat, her analysis, her songs….you have got to love it. So Miss Her, but I am sure she has a NEW BEST BUDDY in Heaven and Mr. Timm is loving it.

  25. okdebby

My sympathies to you and your family on the temporary separation from the company of your daddy. What a day to arrive in Jesus’ presence and be able to share in the Resurrection Day celebrations around the world.

    Tori,

    I have no words!!!

Praying for you and your family – it is comforting knowing that all of the family was there for his farewell into heaven.

    Blessing and Love

Liz, Tori’s sister, just posted this link on Facebook to the funeral home and her Dad’s obituary:

    http://www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/services.asp?locid=10&page=odetail&id=23786

Isn’t that a sweet picture of her Dad? There’s so much kindness, gentleness, and grace that shows on his face.

  28. jonny

    Wow ! I wasn’t aware her father was Timm, Burton ! ; )

  29. Barbara M. Lloyd

Linda, you described him perfectly…..reminds me of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Thank you so much for posting the link here.

  30. LindaB

We are praying for you today, Tori, as you lay your dear father to rest and celebrate his life. ((((Tori & Family)))

The visitation last night was lovely, saw so many people I haven’t seen in decades. Mom originally was not going to have a visitation, then changed her mind– so glad she did, I could tell it was really comforting to her. Today we bury Daddy with a graveside service at 2:00. Each of his 6 kids will speak briefly, each of his 11 grandchildren will read a Scripture and Russ will sing “Because He Lives.”

    Daddy would love that.

  32. LindaB

(((Tori))) Wish we could be there to hear each of Don’s children speak about him. What a lesson we can all take from his life! There was one line from his obituary that blessed and challenged me—-“He was a strong and faithful Christian HIS WHOLE LIFE!” Oh, that those words could be true of each of us. What an incredible testament!

Hug your fiesty little mother for us…….and hold her tight. This will be a very difficult day for her.

  33. Phyllis R

    (((Hugs))))

  34. rachelbaker

Sounds like its going to be a wonderful send-off. I’ll be praying for you all this afternoon x

  35. LindaB

“Because He Lives” is good. I guess “Ain’t No Grave” would be hard to pull off graveside.

Reminds me of that story on one of the Homecoming videos where a widow asked the soloist to sing “Jingle Bells” at her husband’s funeral. And he did. And found out later she meant, “When They Ring Those Golden Bells”!

  36. belinda

Tori, you have all been in our thoughts and prayers and will continue to be. I’m sure you Dad would love the service. Love you! (((((All the family)))))))

  37. Barbara M. Lloyd

“He was a strong and faithful Christian his whole life.” Is there anything more precious that can be said f a man as he leaves this earth? And then next to hear his Father say, “Well done my faithful servant.” It just doesn’t get any better than that.

And, Tori, the funeral plans sound perfect. I can see your dad now, smiling down on his kids as they say goodbye…..for now.

  38. JanetB

Dearest Tori – thinking of you & your family & wondering how ya’ll are doing. Still praying for comfort & peace…

Heard Russ on the radio today…thought of him singing “Because He Lives”…it made me smile.
