    Nobody except your awesome parents!

    They look great!

You should let them ‘pinch-hit’ on the blog sometime and tell how they managed six kids and 73 years together.

  2. Linda

What a great picture, and how wonderful that they have been married that long! They are blessed, as are you to have them.

  3. LindaB

Awwww, how sweet! And inspiring! Wish I could talk to them about life and marriage and kids! What a wealth of experience and wisdom right there!!!

Love that picture too! I love to see older folks holding hands! It’s a picture that really IS worth a thousand words!

My grandparents have been married for 75 years. My parents have been married 50 years, my brother is up to 24 years, my sister 21 years so far. I was married for 17 1/2 years, and lost my husband this February to a stroke.

My first thought was to post about how ‘stinking cute’ they are…but people who have been married that long deserve a much more mature & dignified & respectable title…

    They are friggen adorable.

    THEY ARE SOOOO CUTE!!!!

    Tori,

You, with your writing talents, should write a book of their stories. How the world changes, but is yet the same, through each decade. How God is the same throughout life’s path. Something like that.

No, I did not know anyone who had been married 73 years, but now I do. CONGRATULATIONS AND MANY MORE TO THE “NEWLY WEDS”.

    Tori,
Please, Please, Please on each trip home take a video camera, sit down with your parents, as a couple and each individually and let them recount their childhoods, their courtship and their wonderful marriage. Thankfully I did that with my grandparents and now that they are gone, I have something to show my grandkids about their heritage and it is PRICELESS….

Love the picture and thanks for sharing Mom and Dad with us.

True love….now there’s an appropriate title for that beautiful picture. What’s so very special is the fact that their younger grandchildren (e.g., Madi and Char) enjoy so much going and spending time with these two treasures. How sweet is that?

My parents were married almost 50 years before dad went Home; and my husband and I were married 47 yars before my husband went Home.I doon’t remember exactly how long my maternal grandparents were married but it was well past 50 yars.

Phyllis, the video of your grandparents was a wonderful idea. Our older son tried to get my husband and I to do that….but time ran out.

Tori, give your parents a group hug from all of us here! They are precious.

TORI! I feel like I owe you a big old apology! I had a dream last night about YOU! It was SO REAL! I dreamed someone had died who was related to me, and they lived in Nashville! (I have no relatives living there—–dreams are weird!) You insisted I stay with you at your home ’til the funeral was over. So, my husband and I came. I told you I didn’t want to put you all out IN ANY WAY. Then, there was a knock on the door………and it was some friends from home…..and they came in with their luggage! Then another knock and some relatives came in with their luggage! I was panicking! We were filling up your residence!!! I kept apologizing to you, but you were cool. I said that it was time for breakfast and I was sending out Terry to get breakfast at McDonald’s for us all so you wouldn’t have to feed us all, just in case you were thinking about it. I got a pad of paper and took down everyone’s order……but then noticed that it was after 10:30 and they don’t serve breakfast after that! Now, I was REALLY upset! And you brought out a box of necklaces you had made out of leather strips of different colors with wooden beads…. and handed them out to everybody! I thought, “Gee, she really is a gracious southern lady”! But I still wanted to get everyone out of there even more, …..and I was so grateful that Russ wasn’t there to see this circus! Then the dog jumped on me and woke me up. Whew! I was so relieved that it was a dream! And get this: Hubby asked me if I wanted him to pick up breakfast at McDonalds? LOL

Alyson, is there some meaning to this dream? I can’t get it out of my head!

  12. Barbara M. Lloyd

Well, LindaB, you ought to be having heartburn, for goodness sake. You don’t even know anybody alive in Tennessee…let alone dead….and there you were trying to take all of your live relatives with you to Tori’s…for a week’s vacation. Happens all the time.

  13. tori

Whoa, Linda, I’m just glad I was so NICE about it all, and not screaming or anything…
And I made crafts as well? Dang, I’m the salt of the earth! (In your dreams!)

  14. MostlySunny

LindaB – You’ve got to be careful what you eat/drink before you go to bed, girl!! That is so funny!!!!!

  15. MostlySunny

Isn’t it funny how things get jumbled up in our head and then play out it the weirdest dreams? Places we’ve never been, people we’ve never met, stuff we’ve never done…and then it seems so real when we’re supposed to be sleeping?

We wake up and think “What was that all about?”

And we’re exhausted and need a nap!

  16. LindaB

I KNOW, SUNNY! I’ve been thinking about that dream all day! I was SO MORTIFIED! I think that I should apologize to Tori, then I think, “Oh no, it was a dream! It didn’t happen! Thank heavens!”

And yes, Salty Mother Earth, you made crafts…….and gave EVERYONE a necklace…..instead of screaming and calling the police! I can still see those necklaces! Bless your generous heart! (But, I noticed you didn’t offer me one of those mojitas. But there’s always tonight!)

Ok–I can see I should have been here sooner….

Don’t know how I got to be the ‘dream guru’ but I’ll take a stab at it, since I did study this topic for a long time.

Assuming there is not a big, guilty secret you are keeping from Tori, or most particularly, Russ (maybe you have switched your musical tastes to heavy metal or something)…

Breakfast indicates new beginnings, nurturing, taking care of people you care about… (or you just went to bed hungry). You are not in control of any of those relatives and it disturbs you A LOT. You try to get some control and order in the situation (the list) but that, too, is out of your control. (The time frame of Mcd.’s breakfast service.) Also could indicate too many people are ‘ telling you what they want’ and you feel unable to do anything about it.

The details of the necklaces is interesting…I’ll have to think about that one. The fact that they reinforce Tori as a ‘southern lady’ to your subconcious is interesting, too.

Sounds to me like this is a variation of a ‘control dream’. Someone you know and care about and are used to nurturing is in a situation you either can’t control or help them with
and that you are so worried about what Tori will think is significant somehow. You’d have to ask yourself who else Tori could represent in your life.

Which could be a whole ‘nother blog topic! : )

Or,y’know, I’m full of horse manure. Always a possibility.

  18. LindaB

Oh my, Alyson! YOU ARE GOOD!!!! That’s exactly how I feel right now——-like there are several in my immediate family that I feel like I should help at this time, but I can’t and I have no control over stuff that is happening! Dang, Girl, YOU ARE RIGHT ON!!! I was just kidding about you interpreting the dream, but you actually did it!!! And insightfully! Send me a bill! I am impressed!

I’m not sure about what Tori represents either. I’ll have to think about it. Maybe it’s because I think she is a take charge kind of gal and does everything just right—–maybe reinforced by her post about the perfect dinner party with her blogging friends. And I’m not. And I don’t want her to know that. Gee, this is turning into a psycho babbling confession right here on her blog! Now, I AM sorry, Tori! Carry on!

  19. jonny

Plus she’s traded up Russ for me, auburn60!! I’m afraid you’ve nailed that one on the head as well! She has even started referring to me as her “rock ~n~ roll” bunny! Sorry to have to make this public dear, but if we’re going to get to the bottom of that dream, I think it’s best we get it all out in the open!!

  20. auburn60

I knew our Linda had some big secret!

From now on we’ll just call you ‘jonny-bunny’…affectionately,of course.

  21. LindaB

ROFLOL jonny!!!! I believe it was Tori that said you were as cute as a bunny! I said you look like a “brooding rock star”……and you do! I also said you were nice looking. I may be old and married, but I’m not dead yet! ;)

  22. LindaB

Yeah, Tori……you can tell Russ to throw away that restraining order! I’ve found someone else to stalk. LOL (Actually, at my age and energy level, it’s not exactly stalking anymore. It’s more like finding a place to sit down and rest, and if you’re in my line of sight, all the better. lol)

  23. jonny

Of course, auburn60, I wouldn’t have taken it any other way! Well… at least not from you!! = )

  24. Barbara M. Lloyd

Oh my goodness, I will be able to take the mouse trap alarm off my No. 1 Russ Taff fan button. At least now I won’t look so lop sided from the weight. If you are going to be bench hopping, you’re more my speed, Bunny Lady.

  25. LindaB

Yes, Barb, you can stand up straight now! LOL

Well, Tori, so much for “wordless” Wednesday!

  26. jonny

Or keeping it focused on her parents’ exceptionally cool wedding anniversary!!

  27. LindaB

Yes, I did get us all off track a bit. Sorry.

  28. jonny

I don’t think there’s any reason to apologise, LB! Should be all good!! I believe the reason Tori boldly asked me to start posting more regularly again was to help spice things up a little around here. My calling and all that. Thanks for making my job just that little bit easier, and a lot more fun = )
