My hubby, Joseph, (Joe Appler), is a fantastic handyman! Like our girls used to say when they were little, (and actually still do), “My daddy can fix anything!” And he usually can! Quite amazing!

I wasn’t used to this since my dad, (a doctor), couldn’t fix much around the house, but he was great at getting people healthy!

Blessings!

Been spending over two hours now watching/listening to him sing and checking out other interviews.

GRITS!!!!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED TO YOUR COURTHOUSE? ITS ALL OVER THE NEWS TODAY! Do you live near there? They’re finding dead women’s bodies around in my county! (Edgecombe) Now the total is 4, w/ the most recent being found last night – a 40 year old black woman. Once upon a time – it coulda been me, as many cars as I used to foolishly jump in – not knowing the person from Adam! Glory to Jesus for this victory and deliverance! peace

I didn’t know we had a new blog entry. Not really new though since it’s obviously been here since Friday.

Enjoyable as usual, Tori. The “Say its” are always very entertaining also. Most of your friends have such keen senses of humor…love the comments.

My ex and my son can fix anything (change that to ex COULD). When my son was a child, he could take something apart, put it back together with pieces left over but it still worked. Still works that way today…always has parts left over but things get fixed, including cars. :) As a divorcee most of my life, I got quite handy myself. I’ve even put in dimmer switches, put in new porch lights, etc. I could probably fix your chandelier, Tori, except that I’d now get dizzy and fall off the ladder.

Sounds like a wonderful time in Asheville for Bill’s birthday. Saw the picture Russ shared on Twitter. George Beverly Shea is totally amazing.

Though I couldn’t make it to the Asheville concert, I had the next best thing…wonderful concert in Asheboro with Ivan Parker, the Greenes, the Hoppers, the Anchormen, Brian Free & Assurance. Praise & worship to bring the house down. Only thing missing was you and Russ. And GVB. And…just everyone else!

Praying for Betty. She’s blessed to have so many who love her praying for her, and many who don’t even know her.

Thanks for leting me off the hook on that one, Janice = ) Well, I’ve been waiting 46 years now, so I wonder if the longer you wait, the better the pay-off!! = ) Of course if I let go of my married, on-line, older women obsession it probably wouldn’t be taking this long… = /

Really good to read you two complete each other, and sorry to read about the scare two months ago. Hopefully things are much better with his health already!!

I love the man extremely! I waited 37 years for God to bring the right man into my life and He did a fantastic job! We will be celegrating our 13th anniversary in May, and I love him more every day. My husband had a heart attack 2 months ago and it really scared me. I can’t imagine my life without him. We are totally opposite, but we complete each other. I would never disrespect him. I spoil him rotten.

I’m glad Betty is doing better. Prayers will continue on her behalf.
Jonny, don’t get discouraged, my 37 year wait was worth it.

I just hope I haven’t scared off Janice, especially since she was brave enough to come back again in the first place!! REALLY sorry if I offended you J!! It truly started out as a bit of good, clean fun!! Had no idea at the time there where a few demons in the lurking!!

And LB, maybe that’s why our little affair has lasted so long… We’ve never met!! = )

Oh, and D, after being away awhile, Red is back at work again! It looks as tho she’s also been ‘promoted’ and is working full time. AND, last night, shortly before I left the little store, she flashed a quick little smile at me!! = )

OK, back to pining after LB and enjoying my stomach flu, at the same time!! And, again, sorry Janice for dropping a rotten egg on your much appreciated coming back moment!!

Peace!

Just to make things more understandable (and I’m totally aware of the fact that it has nothing to do with your post, Tori!): I DID in fact pass my finals in English successfully, yes BUT French is still going on. I am sorry about the hurts from your past dysfunctional (can I say that?) family life. That does seem to haunt a person for a life time, doesn’t it? And, on the other hand, I’m very glad you were “born” into God’s family and that He is able to heal all the hurts and brokenness from the past. I know it’s a process and doesn’t often happen overnight, but you are making good progress by being able to talk about it and make some sense of it now in hindsight. And we are praying for you, Brother! My pastor’s wife always says heartaches in this life either make you “better” or “bitter”! I think you are getting better, Jonny! Good job!

And seriously, all joking aside, if you knew me well, and you had to chose between me and the stomach flu…….you’d chose the flu in a nano second. Trust me. LOL

BUT, you are a taken woman!! T-A-K-E-N W-O-M-A-M !!! Why do you torture me so, reminding me over AND over AND over again of what I can’t, and NEVER, N-E-V-E-R will be able TO have!! I think I’m just going to have to stay home in bed all day. Oh wait, I have a stomach flu and have to stay home anyway. Well, I guess I can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, staying good in bed today! = ) Yeah productive me!!

Oh, FWIW, I know a thing or two about computers, can fix MANY things, AND I’ve been told I sing like an Angel, and that I’m more than handsome!! So, WHY AM I STILL SINGLE!?!?! Argh!!!!! Oh, could be because of my distrust of women, and fear of what they would saw behind my back, especially after getting to know me better… ; )

(OK, half serious on that last one)

And sorry if I soiled the mood. It was originally intended as a joke of sorts, then when explaining was requested it got more serious. I guess it’s an extremely sensitive area for me as well. I’ve had a whole childhood of our mom diss-ing my dad when I was with her and her friends, making many personal, private things public, with her slant on it, and herself being responsible for damage my brother, sister and myself are STILL uncovering, meanwhile those outside the family usually think of her as a martyr/saint, the saviour of our family. But, the one most people believe to be the devil incarnate, especially if they’ve been listening to her stories over the years, is the one God has clearly used to keep their marriage, as well as our family, together. Faults and all. Go figure.

Also, I just had to listen to a childhood friend of mine give me back some propaganda I wasn’t aware his family got from our mom back in the day. I didn’t want to diss her, have get back to his family, then in some way back to my mom, so I let it go. Honoring parents and all that.

Interestingly enough, my dad can fix almost anything, including things for my mom’s two sisters, AND he’s been into computers since the mid-60’s. Apparently, that’s not good enough either, though. LOL! = )

Laura Plott– Well, I DO have a dishwasher and it works, but half the time I wash them by hand anyway and use the dishwasher as a drying rack– what’s wrong with me?!

LindaB– I would actually love to see a picture at your clean refrigerator…

rockin’ robin– I totally wrote that ballist thing down to show to the electrician– but actually, it wasn’t so much a rotten egg smell, more like something kinda scorchy…

Eldonna– HA! Yeah, nothng like *helpful* relatives!

delightedabroad– BOY HOWDY, you have a lot of tests! My brain would be fried!

Janice– HEY, welcome back! Betty is home, and recovering, trying to get stronger and still on dialysis. PLEASE keep praying for her. I totally get the whole ‘computer guy/not a handyman thing! My dad could always fix anything, I thought ALL guys could until I married a singer! I have learned to do a lot of things around here, too– but then, I can’t sing like Russ, so we can call it even!

jonny– Oh honey, that’s not attitude, that’s just stating the facts!

ibclcisme– THAT is hilarious! I want that t-shirt!

jonny– Yep, you’re out there in extreme-land, sweet silly boy– you know we would never SERIOUSLY diss anybody around here!

auntie– LOVE that! Yeah, every time the girls make fun of Russ for saying, “What?” he says, “Too many years of loud music…” (And don’t worry, I NEVER leave this house unattended when I travel– we have a full-time house sitter AND a security system!)

I’m new here. I’ve enjoyed your husband’s music over the years, and it’s been fun to read your blog.

Funny story – When I was in college in the late 80’s, I saw Russ on tour with David Meece. I think it was the “Medals” tour? Anyway, my sister was an usher at the venue, which was in the round. They had every type of artist imaginable through the place, from country to metal to 50’s to musical theater. She had seen it all.

Anyway, after the show, we found her, and she was rubbing her ears. She said “All of the ushers agreed – that was the loudest, longest show we have ever been to!” All I can think was, those 80’s Christian acts knew how to rock! :-)

P.S. There have been a lot of robberies in my area lately. I would be careful posting on the internet when you are away.

I don’t know her situation to know if there are some real issues that require some outside help, but I wasn’t sure at the time how else to discribe a wife who would come to a rather public forum and in a martyr-ish sort of vibe diss her husband by name, 1st name anyway. Then, rally all us girls to the cause, so to speak. The way I see it, no one is a picnic to live with 24-7, male or female, and making public some things that may bother you about another borderlines bad form to me, especially if those you are making it public to are not directly involved in the situation. Then it may lean more towards gossip, which like money, is basically the root of many evils. I may be taking this to an extreme, though.

Around here (New Orleans) we see a lot of interesting RIP items — shirts are a favorite of mine. I have told my husband over and over again that when he passes on, I will have tees made up for the entire family to wear, with a huge picture of his face, preferably with him making some sort of gang or peace sign, with lots of glitter and gems and of course his name, birth and death date, and some saying such as “Sunrise, sunset, Paul be here but now he dead” (yes. I saw this on a tee shirt once. Eloquence runs rampant here.)

How is Betty doing? I haven’t had a chance to talk to you all because we are trying to sell our house and we are doing some fixing up. (Oh, the agony!)

Chandeliers! My husband, David, and I put up our chandelier. It actually works, but we forgot to shorten the wires and the chain before hanging it. It looks funky, but it works!

David, the love of my life and bane of my existence, is a computer guy, not a handyman. My father had three daughters, so we learned early in life to do simple household and car repairs. My hubby can’t locate the oil dipstick in the car.(Ha!) But we love them anyway, rght ladies?
You all have a good day and keep safe.

Your light fixture story reminded me of when some relatives were visiting from out of state and decided to help me out by hanging my ceiling fan. At the end of the weekend my plain, but previously working, light fixture was replaced by—–wires hanging out of the ceiling! At least your chandelier thingy still LOOKS good. :)
Have a wonderful week.

Tori, I see that most everyone is busy today and haven’t had time to comment here (except for you, Laura!). I hope you are having fun mingling with gospel music greats, chatting it up with Bill and Gloria G., enjoying the company of some of America’s most accomplished artists (I always feel a little uppity calling them “artists”. “Artists” paint pictures or sculpt stuff. Those are singers, if you ask me. But you didn’t. And that’s what Gloria calls them. Enough said.) Oh, and being with your super-singing hubby. I was thinking about you tonight living it up in Asheville while I was cleaning out my refrigerator (I think I’ve rediscovered penicillan!). Then I bagged all the empty soda bottles to take back to Walmart to get the refund. To round out the evening, I took all the shoestrings out of our tennis shoes and bleached them. I was going to change the furnace filter, but I didn’t want to do all the fun things tonight and then have nothing to do tomorrow. I trust you are having a great time……I know I am. Looking forward to some great pictures. I’d take some of my very clean fridge, but I can’t find my camera. Love you!

Don’t ya hate it when you mention to your significant other that something is broke and he acts like HE’S the woman and says, “Oh no! What shall we do?” when you fully expect him to jump up and say, “Where IS it, Darlin’? I can fix that for you right now! And then I’ll take your car and get the oil changed for ya! And rotate your tires! Let me get my tool box!!” Boy, those were the good old days! My dishwasher has been broke for two weeks and Mr. I-can-fix-anything-that-you-can-break hasn’t lifted a finger to fix it, and I KNOW he can! I’m getting dishpan hands! (Is this the “for better or worse” part I opted for?) Are you all feeling sorry for me yet? I think you should. I’ve gotta go get some more lotion.

But I have learned one thing——-I can do ANY kitchen chore or project on paper plates now! It’s an art.
